Algorithmic Sequencing #1 (Muybridge Experiment) (2009)
Meant to be displayed as a projection or on an HD screen, this experiment pays homage to the father of cinematography, Eadweard Muybridge. Using Algorithmic Sequencing this projection creates a never ending succession of Muybridge's images. In order to create this work, traditional linear video editing software and techniques had to be abandoned. Instead, web-authoring tools were used.
Cellular Apoptosis (2009)
Building on the Mixed Germ Cell series & using technology and scripting similar to In the end, you're the only one stuck with yourself this project creates a never ending progression of compositions from a drawing I created of cellular apoptosis. (Apoptosis: A form of cell death in which a programmed sequence of events leads to the elimination of cells without releasing harmful substances into the surrounding area.)
FCKD Mag (2009)
An addition to the shopdropping project, FCKD Mag is a series of altered "glossy mags". Each work is created in an edition of two. One will be returned to the store where it was purchased, and the other will be kept as a record. The goal of the alterations is to subvert the original intent of the magazine (usually some form of acceptable, glossy escapism) and create a new and challenging image.
Mixed Germ Cells (2009)
For this piece I created vector diagrams of a Mixed Germ Cell tumor. I then modified Actionscript for Flash to create random works using the diagrams, thus representing the metastasis of a tumor. Compositions are then selected and printed as a singular noneditioned work.
Memento Mori (2009)
The detailed instructions and concept for the last artwork I will create. The skull tattoo was designed and executed specifically for this project. Tattoo work by Troy Denning.
In the end, you're the only one stuck with yourself. (2009)
Self-portrait with two vices: liquor and cigarettes. Each time this piece is loaded the stills of the timeline are randomly assigned using original Actionscript code; removing the work from the realm of video, film or other time-based media.
This is NOT a video. It is NOT video art. The script creates a unique sequence of events each time it is opened. The title comes from something someone once told me.
The loading can be slow the first time it plays. Please be patient, it loads quickly once it is cached.
Diagnosis (2009)
A depiction of the total quantity of prescription medication I should take in 365 days according to current diagnosis and prescriptions. Additional works will be created as this changes.
TRANSIT (2008)
For TRANSIT, I have taken the subway maps of the busiest 10 subway systems in the world (Tokyo, Moscow, New York, Seoul, Mexico City, Paris, Hong Kong, London, Osaka, Sao Paulo) and created vector copies of each, removing all of the text - based information.
In TRANSIT #1 [MAP KEY] (a 16" x 20" archival inkjet print in an edition of 10) each of the maps has been layered on top of each other. Depth along the Z-axis for each is based on how old the system is (ie London is the oldest system and the bottom layer). The maps were then rotated to match the actual orientation of the city, as opposed to the vertical/horizontal layout of traditional map design. The color scheme is a choropleth value system in which colors are assigned based upon yearly ridership. Finally, the scale of each map is relative to the system's total length of track. I then modified Actionscript, originally published by Dale Sattler on his No Ponies Blog, in order to create random compositions using the 10 maps.
Embryonal Carcinoma #2 [P.1 Intervention] (2008)
Using the designs created for Embryonal Carcinoma #1, I altered programs from Prospect New Orleans 1 and returned them to locations participating in the biennale. The use of tumor diagrams reflects my uninvited, invasive participation in the festival, but also raises questions about the nature of Prospect 1 as a guest within the city of New Orleans. Out of respect for the official artists, and Dan Cameron's ambitious vision, the altered programs DO NOT tag over or obscure the original content. Embryonal Carcinoma #2 continues where my project for Free Manifesta in 2002 left off.
Embryonal Carcinoma #1 (2008)
Four vector diagrams of a malignant Embryonal Carcinoma tumor are animated with Actionscript for Flash to create random works using the diagrams, thus representing the metastasis of a tumor. 10 compositions will be selected out of 100 attempts to create a series of prints in an edition of 1 each.
The exquisite corpse updated for the digital age. Each participant is unaware of all but the immediately proceeding contribution. The final results will be printed with a traditional printing press.

Still holding onto everything (2008)
Large scale photo composite including photographs from 2001 - 2008. still holding onto everything is a 120 cm x 100 cm print on canvas in an edition of 1. The other "detail" composites are 40cm x 50 cm digital C prints in an edition of 5.
Home (2008)
A photograph of every building or lot on the nothern side of the 0.1 m/0.2 km route of Orient Avenue in Brooklyn. I lived at the intersection of Orient and Olive Street from May of 2007 until August of 2008.
SHOPDROPPING (2003 - 2008) SHOPDROP: To covertly place merchandise on display in a store. A form of "culture jamming" s. reverse shoplift, droplift.
SHOPDROPPING is an ongoing project in which I alter the packaging of canned goods and then shopdrop the items back onto grocery store shelves. I replace the packaging with labels created using my photographs. The shopdropped works act as a series of art objects that people can purchase from the grocery store. Because the barcodes and price tags are left intact purchasing the cans before they are discovered and removed is possible. In one instance the shopdropped cans were even restocked to a new aisle based on the barcode information.
Reykjavik (2007)
In November 2007, I spent 29 days in Reykjavik, Iceland. Each day I meticulously documented my daily expenses while creating a daily log of the eerie and unique Icelandic winter. I selected one photograph from each day, specifically those that captured the personality of this strikingly distinct place. As the expenses add up, the cost of creating each photo is tallied. This record of the minutia of daily life, when displayed alongside scenes from the starkly beautiful landscape reveals an intimate yet often monotonous portrait of Reykjavik and my time there.
Just Another 3704558 [asshole] (2007)
As part of the Conflux Festival 2007, MetroColorCollision and I asked artists to reconfigure an assigned phone booth. The project invokes an extant relic of old-school communication -- the payphone -- and combines it with the contemporary spirit of street art and modern forms of communication. The title takes its name from beeper code and how we used to use various number combinations to send succinct messages (143=i love you, 07734=hello, 3704558=asshole, etc). Now, we email, text and talk away thanks to unlimited weekends but the eloquence is somehow just not there anymore.
relapsed.net v 1.0 - 2.0 (2003 - 2005)
Experimental media/art/photography website. relapsed.net was the original home of SHOPDROPPING. Some links and files are broken or obsolete. This site is not updated and is for archival purposes only. Click on the camera drawing on the menu page for the materials from version 1.0 of relapsed.net.
Free Manifesta (2002)
For Free Manifesta, I altered printed programs from the Manifesta 4 Biennial in Frankfurt, transforming them into unique photographic collages. After altering the programs, I replaced them in participating exhibition spaces for public distribution. I also collaborated with artist "Swoon" on a variety of street art installations.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Free Manifesta was a project for Manifesta 4, the European Biennial of Contemporary Art held in Frankfurt am Main, Germany from May 25 to August 24, 2002. A place in Manifesta 4 was purchased for $15,099 in an ebay auction by New York artist Sal Randolph, and any artist who wished was invited to exhibit their work as part of Free Manifesta. Over 225 artists & groups participated in free public art projects of all kinds which took place around Frankfurt am Main as well as through the broadcast airwaves, telephone and mail systems and on the internet. 50 000 Minutes (1999)
In the fall of 1999 I audio recorded 50,000 consecutive minutes of my waking life.
500 tapes @ 100 min. ea. = 50,000 Minutes.
The taping process lasted a little over two months. The recordings were exhibited completely unedited with the audience given complete reign over the tapes for playback and total access to the audio documentation of my life during this time.
50,000 Minutes explores the narrowing line between documentary, reality programming, and surveillance. Revealing the monotony of unedited daily life, many of the tapes are unbearable to listen to. Created before the current onslaught of reality programming, 50 000 Minutes shows just how tedious "Real" reality programming can be.
